Now that cold and flu season is around the corner, this might be a good time to talk supplements.
We all know that Vitamin C and E are good year-round antioxidant protection in addition to the B vitamins.

But let's talk about Vitamin D. And the flu shot.
The most current research in the Journal of the American Medical Association revealed that the swine flu virus had actually a lower risk of serious symptoms compared to the seasonal flu.
In Tokyo, at the Jikei University School of Medicine, research on Vitamin D consumption and the flu was performed on school children. Children given Vitamin D during the height of the 2009 flu season had a 42% less risk for getting the flu than those children who did not receive Vitamin D.
The effectiveness of the flu shot is about 30%. The Center for Disease Control is recommending that everyone above the age of 6 years receive the new flu shot which is a combination of H1N1 and a couple of other strains of flu. And according to research, Vitamin D supplements reduce the risk of the flu by 42%.
What would you do? I think I'm going to the nearest health food store and getting some Vitamin D supplements.
Our bodies produce vitamin D just by going out in the sun for a little while (without sunscreen).
Now that cooler weather is on the way... why don't we go outside and enjoy the weather and the leaves changing and produce our own Vitamin D?
